Vacancy - Cook/ Chef

Branches Café requires a full-time experienced Cook/ Chef (permanent), (Job share considered) to deliver high catering standards and efficient operation in keeping with the mission and aims of Branches Young Peoples Support Services. Branches Cafe is a social enterprise with youth work as our social purpose.  All profits generated by serving the best breakfasts and lovely lunches go towards work with young people.  We believe a community needs a place where people can come together to chat, eat drink and laugh. We believe Young People need a safe place of their own to play, learn and grow.

You will be supported by the Cafe Manager and a committed management team. Working hours will be 37.5 hours, between 7am-6pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am-1pm Saturday, with flexibility and the occasional evening for training and team building.  You do not need to have experience of working with young people, but you will be open to helping them fulfil their potential.
 

About the Role:

  • Create food that reflects a nurturing and nourishing approach, providing healthy food that is down to earth which also has a playful element
  • Be part of creating a customer focused team, understanding that we are serving the community with young people at its heart
  • Prepare and deliver the Branches menu and lead best practice by example, observing food hygiene regulations and requirements.
  • Work with the Café Manager to create a menu which appeals to customer groups including community, business people and young people
  • Ensure the Café kitchen and Café area is set up to required standards, with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Legislation adhered to.
  • Propose dishes/fillings and recipes that can be prepared by Staff, Volunteers and Young People in the evenings as part of skills development
  • Instruct and guide Staff, Volunteers and Young People if they are acting as assistants

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role.


Pay is £8.50-£10 per hour (or £16,575 - £19,500 pro rata) dependant on experience.

Branches Café requires 2 part-time Team Members to deliver high catering standards and efficient operation in keeping with the mission and aims of Branches Young Peoples Support Services. Branches Cafe is a social enterprise with youth work as our social purpose.  All profits generated by serving the best breakfasts and lovely lunches go towards work with young people.  We believe a community needs a place where people can come together to chat, eat drink and laugh. We believe Young People need a safe place of their own to play, learn and grow.

 

You will be supported by the Cafe Manager and a committed management team. Experience as a Barista is desirable.  You do not need to have experience of working with young people, but you will be open to helping them fulfil their potential.

 

There are two 16 - 20 hour contracts available.  Working hours will be between Mon-Fri 0730-1800 and/or Sats 0800-1300 to be discussed and agreed. Salary: £8 per hour


About the Role:

  • Be part of creating a customer focused ethos, understanding that we are serving the community with young people at its heart
  • Serve customers in a friendly and welcoming manner
  • act as barista and prepare beverages using espresso coffee machine
  • collect payments by accepting cash, or charge payments from customers
  • work alongside Young People and Volunteers and provide guidance
  • ensure high standards of food quality and presentation are met

We would love you to join us as a Volunteer and help make Branches a safe and nurturing place for young people and the wider community.  We know there are lots of reasons to volunteer.  You might want to give something back or build up your own confidence. We will build on your strengths.  We will provide training on youth work approaches and catering including Level 2 Food Hygiene.  We will support you to do Safeguarding.
